Blue Screen - Inaccessible Boot Device error

To fix this issue will require the Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional CD provided with the DVR . Using another Windows 2000/XP CD will also work in most cases, however any damage done to the system while using 'another' CD will Void the Customer Warranty.

  • You will need to boot off of the Windows CD. (Press any key to boot from CD...)

    • This may require adjusting the Boot Device Priority within the BIOS.

      • Pressing <DEL> while it is booting will get you into the BIOS.

      • Press the Right Arrow key till it highlights the BOOT menu.

      • Press down till you are over Boot Device Priority, and press <ENTER>.

      • Make the appropriate adjustments, and then press <F10> and <ENTER> to Save and Exit.

  • It will take approximately 1 minute to load setup and prompt you with 3 options: <Enter> to Install, <R> to Repair, <F3> to Quit

  • Press <R> to Repair and it will begin Examining Disk Configuration.

  • If using a Windows 2000 CD, you will be prompted with an extra menu. Press <C> for Recovery Console.

  • The screen will now go white text on a black background and ask which windows installation you wish to log in to. You must type the number “1” (no quotes) and then press <ENTER>.

  • When asked to “Type the Administrator Password,” <see attached pdf for password> and press <ENTER>.

  • You will now have the prompt: C:\WINNT>

  • Type the following, and note the spaces and forward slashes: chkdsk c: /p /r
    Press <ENTER>

  • Once the checkdisk has completed you will be back at the C:\WINNT> prompt. Type: EXIT and press <ENTER> to reboot the DVR .

  • Let it boot past the message, “Press any key to boot from CD,” and wait to see if the Blue Screen error returns or if the system boots all the way to the software. If everything boots normally, problem solved. Otherwise, unit may need to be RMA 'd.
