Common remote connection error messages
- “No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.”
This message is generated when one or more of the following have occurred during the connection attempt.
- The ETV Server software is NOT running on the DVR
.
- The Internet (WAN) IP address of the router
does not match the IP address saved in the ETV Remote Client.
- The router
port-forwarding has NOT been configured properly, or has not been done.
- A SECOND router
is in line to the DVR
that has not been configured for port-forwarding
- The Firewall on the PC using the ETV Remote Client may be blocking the connection attempt.
- “An invalid argument was supplied”
This message is generated when the following has occurred during a connection attempt.
- The IP address/DNS
entered into the ETV Remote Client is incorrect. An illegal character was used, there is a missing period in the ip address, the DNS
name was misspelled or is not valid.
- “Connection failed”
This message is generated when the following has occurred during a connection attempt.
- There is no network activity at the DVR
and/or the remote site
- The firewall on the PC using the ETV Remote Client is blocking access to the internet
- The Internet (WAN) or local IP address is not correct.
- The port-forwarding has not been configured in the router
(s).
4. "Destination host is unreachable"
This message is generated when the host IP address is not valid, or device on the network is not configured properly.
- The modem or router
is not setup properly [call your ISP or IT dept.]
- The DVR
's static addressing is not configured properly.
